The Lone Star State is still at odds with marijuana, and by extension, Oklahoma’s OMMA program.
As a border state, you can see both sides of the argument. It’s also the most likely reason Texas just upped their THC laws with even tougher penalties for the most common cannabis products.
What Changed With Texas THC Laws?
Texas lawmakers recently approved new restrictions aimed at many THC products that had been sold under the state’s hemp laws.
The changes affect a lot of products people are familiar with, including certain gummies, vape cartridges, concentrates, drinks, and other THC products.
Texas still has a medical cannabis program, but it’s far more limited than Oklahoma’s. For the average OMMA patient, it doesn’t offer any protection.

Once you cross into Texas, you’re playing by Texas rules, and Texas doesn’t care where you bought it.
Can You Go To Jail For THC In Texas?
Like most penalties in this category, it all depends on what and how much of it you have.
For some concentrates and vape pens, you can go to jail for less than a gram, plus fines up to $10,000.
And before anybody starts thinking, “It’s just one gummy…”
Texas generally looks at the weight of the entire product, not just the THC inside it. So a package of gummies or a vape cartridge may be treated very differently than people expect.
What Oklahoma OMMA Patients Should Know Before Traveling
This isn’t about whether you agree with Oklahoma’s marijuana laws or Texas’ marijuana laws.
It’s about knowing the rules before you cross the border.
If you’re headed south for the weekend, the easiest way to avoid a very bad day is to leave your cannabis at home.
Your OMMA card works great in Oklahoma.
