If there are two things that I generally avoid when it comes to CBD gummies, it’s THC-free products and a Tropical Punch flavor. Yet against the odds, the good folks at Colorado’s Extract Labs have crafted a fully THC-free Tropical Punch gummy that has quickly become one of my favorite CBD products of all time.

CBD products tend to work most effectively when they contain trace amounts of naturally-occurring THC (0.3% is the legal limit) and other cannabinoids. Yet for low-tolerance consumers like myself, even that little bit of THC can interfere with my ability to stay focused. Extract’s gummy—each one contains 50 milligrams of pure CBD—doesn’t do that. It calms the nerves and eliminates stress. Morning, noon, or night, it does exactly what I want it to do, and nothing more.

As for the flavor, I find that tropical punch gummies tend to taste like Kool-Aid—synthetic and overpowering. Extract’s tropical punch gummy, however, tickles your taste buds without walloping you with a monster sugar blast.

As you’ll notice, these gummies ain’t cheap. But in my book, they’re worth every penny.

Our pick for Leafly Strain of the Year 2023 was so dead-on it could be Strain of the Year again. Permanent Marker is now a top 10 strain out west. It’s available in any modality—from bubble hash to flower to cart. Indoor soil growers MOCA Humboldt in Eureka, CA compete with the best Markers this fall. The package says 35.16% total THC and the iced-out nugs sure look like it.

Myrcene, limonene, and linalool cooperate to create that ‘Gelato times 1,000’ marker fuel fume smell. Peak cure, freshness, and flawless manicuring all worked in the bud’s favor. MOCA’s cut could technically be more marker-like, but only because the competition is so steep. Maybe it’s the sky-high THC, but this cut also felt more racey, and less chill than the average marker. We gamed with a twitchy, ‘I’m in danger’ edge instead of zoning out and giggling.

Lovers of stanky gas strains, we got a banger. Wood Wide High Craft is working on some Headbanger, which we list as a Sour Diesel x Biker Kush cross from Karma Genetics.

That certainly tracks. Karma knows their sours and kushes. Wood Wide executes at the near-flawless level for this dense, resinous, light-dark green, sour kush-type strain. It has a ton of Biker Kush caryophyllene terps—just super-pungent, and aggressive. A focused, euphoric, and uplifting high-octane hybrid that pairs with strength-training, hiking, a beach hang, or rock show.
