Seven startups are poised to reshape Mississippi’s economic landscape through an intensive accelerator program tailored for emerging businesses in the state. As Innovate Mississippi introduces the CoBuilders 2025 Cohort on Tuesday, these ventures will unveil their initiatives at a critical event in downtown Jackson.
The CoBuilders 2025 launch day, taking place at The Capitol Club, represents a significant moment for Mississippi’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. It provides a platform for showcasing innovative solutions that align with the state’s evolving economic goals.
Diverse Startups with Local Backing
This year’s cohort showcases a diverse array of companies, each supported by regional sponsors who have recognized their potential. “This year’s cohort reflects the creativity and diversity of Mississippi’s entrepreneurial talent,” stated Tony Jeff, president and CEO of Innovate Mississippi. “Each startup addresses real-world challenges, and we’re eager to assist them in scaling their solutions.”
The participating companies include Study Placer, backed by the MSU E-Center, and Vertical Take-Off Reading from MSU Vicksburg. Automatic Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerges from the Oxford/CDF partnership, while ClaimTra is a product of BeanPath and Higher Purpose Co. SimpleScript also hails from MSU Vicksburg, and MagnoliaEd is supported by the Mississippi Polymer Institute. Altude represents the Gulf Coast region.
Intensive Accelerator Program
These seven startups will embark on a comprehensive 12-week accelerator program, collaborating with seasoned Mississippi business professionals and mentors. This journey will culminate in November’s Pitch Day, where founders will present refined business models to investors and stakeholders.
Jeff likens Innovate Mississippi’s approach to a “Shark Tank” for technology startups in the region. “We work closely with small business development centers on bankable deals, but we focus on non-bankable ventures that can attract investor funding with the right elements in place,” he explained.
Fostering Local Innovation
The CoBuilders program was developed to address the need for a stronger entrepreneurial ecosystem in Mississippi, aiming to bridge local innovation with broader economic impact. The pandemic inadvertently facilitated the growth of remote collaboration, allowing for a truly statewide accelerator initiative.
CoBuilders employs a unique partnership-focused approach, coordinating with eight regional entities to support startups without requiring them to relocate. This ensures that local expertise and connections are integral to the growth of each company.
Real-World Structure for Success
Startups cannot apply directly to the CoBuilders cohort but must first engage with regional partners, who identify and support promising ventures through pitch events. This multi-tiered strategy enhances local entrepreneurial capacity, promotes geographic diversity, and fosters a competitive atmosphere that elevates the quality of participating companies.
The economic rationale hinges on the understanding that robust entrepreneurial ecosystems drive job creation and wealth generation. By offering incentives and support to nascent companies, Mississippi aims to lay the groundwork for meaningful economic growth.
The 2024 CoBuilders cohort already demonstrated impressive diversity, generating investments through SAFE agreements to enhance capacity and engagement in the program. Examples include Food Scout, which simplifies food delivery, and MedHub AI, which showcases healthcare AI applications. Other innovative startups span sectors from real estate to healthcare automation and cannabis solutions.
Community Engagement and Mentorship
CoBuilders thrives on local partnerships, with various organizations contributing to the ecosystem. The Mississippi State E-Center supports innovative business ideas, while the Community Development Foundation in Tupelo operates a business incubator to bolster local entrepreneurship.
As the 2025 CoBuilders cohort begins its intensive development journey, the broader Mississippi business community is encouraged to contribute through mentorship and direct engagement with founders. Opportunities for mentorship cover technical product development, market strategy, and financial planning, facilitating valuable connections that can foster startup growth.
November’s Pitch Day will be another pivotal moment for engagement, allowing attendees to witness the results of months of dedication and hard work. Tuesday’s Launch Day serves as an immediate chance to connect with participants before they dive into their intensive development work, establishing an ideal environment for networking and collaboration.
