Hon. Sophia Moermond MLC
Legalise Cannabis WA

Welcome to my page,

I am a member of the Legislative Council in the Parliament of Western Australia for the Legalise Cannabis Party.

I am the 114th woman to be appointed to Parliament and the first woman to be voted into Parliament on a legalise cannabis platform. Legalising cannabis became very important to me after a journey I took with my mother down the medicinal cannabis path. The process was very difficult and expensive and I found something that could help my mother and so many other people was so difficult to do here in Australia, yet other countries in this world embrace cannabis and it’s many benefits to human health.

I believe cannabis can help with the many environmental challenges our society faces in our very near future. We need to make society aware of the many and varied uses for cannabis and industrial hemp. I believe we should be creating many industries around industrial hemp including processing hemp for herd to build housing, insulation, carpets, food, compostable packaging and carbon capture, just to name a few.

Freedom of choice to smoke cannabis, just like you have the freedom to buy a beer from a regulated outlet and drink it should not have to be a choice between being law abiding or not. Cannabis should be regulated and taxed, just like alcohol. The many flavours and strengths of cannabis should also be available from a store, just as alcohol is

Have a look further into my website, or subscribe to my newsletter to find out more about how cannabis, and cannabis legalisation will give us all better access to freedom of choice, healthier medicine and products and a happier environment.

ECS Botanics Retail Pivot Not Going How Ceo Wants – It’s the fault of those foreigners “dragging their heels”

Published

Cannabiz has a report straight out of central casting.

Here’s a suggestion. How about rather than just importing the cheapest medical grade weed you can source on the planet and re-packaging it and flogging it. You know how difficult it is because otherwise you wouldn’t be trying to import the stuff

I suppose none of this can come as any surprise as her background is Pharma where in the main you say something and you get what you want

Their intro says..

ECS Botanics prepares for ‘massive shift’ towards retail strategy

Cannabiz Report – Researchers find little evidence of next-day impairment among insomnia patients treated with THC/CBD oil

Published

on

Interesting report from Cannabiz illustrating what is already common knowledge globally by ressearchers.

We presume even an Australian study with published results like this won’t stop the Victorian Government wasting $AUS5 Million with Swinburne!

Australian researchers have found insomnia patients using medicinal cannabis containing THC experience little or no next-day impairment in findings which could have a significant impact on the debate around drug-driving reform.

The team, including representatives from the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research and the Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics, studied 20 adults with insomnia to determine next-day impairment following evening administration of a typical medicinal cannabis oil compared to a placebo.

Thailand: Pro-cannabis advocates rally ahead of the government’s plan to recriminalize the plant

Published

Dozens of pro-cannabis advocates gathered Thursday at the health ministry on the outskirts of the Thai capital, Bangkok, to oppose the government’s plan to relist the plant as a narcotic, two years after it was decriminalised

NONTHABURI, Thailand (AP) — Dozens of pro-cannabis advocates gathered Thursday at the health ministry on the outskirts of the Thai capital, Bangkok, to oppose the government’s plan to relist the plant as a narcotic, two years after it was decriminalized.

The rally came after Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin last week said he would like the plant to be relisted as a narcotic again by the end of this year. Thailand became the first country in Asia to decriminalize it in 2022 for medical purposes, but in practice the market appears virtually unregulated, leading to public backlash and concerns over misuse and crime.

About 30 people came to the health ministry in Nonthaburi, just north of the Thai capital Bangkok, to petition minister Somsak Thepsuthin.

The group’s representative, Prasitchai Nunuan, said they all agreed that cannabis should be properly regulated, but that doesn’t require the rescheduling of the plant as a narcotic, noting possible economic impacts on a budding industry.

“Whenever it is relisted as a narcotic, cannabis will be put in jail again,” Prasitchai said as health minister Somsak stood listening to the group’s demands.

Decriminalization of cannabis in 2022 was spearheaded by the Bhumjaithai Party, whose stronghold is in the impoverished northeast where it promised farmers cannabis would be a new cash crop.

Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul became health minister of the previous government, pushing through an amendment to the Narcotics Law, dropping cannabis from the list of controlled substances.

Somsak, who was appointed as health minister in last month’s cabinet reshuffle, responded that he would take the demands into consideration. The minister said that his standpoint has always been that cannabis should be used for medical purposes only, not recreational.

Chokwan “Kitty” Chopaka, a cannabis shop owner and activist, said that the government’s u-turn on the policy appears to be more political than scientific.“I think the word stigma hasn’t actually been erased out of cannabis, even with the legalization,” she said.
