A new study published in the journal Heart reveals that marijuana use is linked to a significantly increased risk of heart attack and stroke. Analyzing medical records of 200 million people aged 19 to 59, researchers found that marijuana users have a 29% higher risk of heart attack and a 20% higher risk of stroke compared to non-users. Although the study does not pinpoint specific causes, it suggests that harmful compounds in marijuana smoke may contribute to these risks. The study underscores the need to reevaluate the potential cardiovascular harms of marijuana, especially as its use becomes more common with legalization.
