Mississippi Green Oil (MGO) has completed construction on its facility and is poised to begin manufacturing medical marijuana in Prentiss. Owner Tom Moore announced that all necessary licensing and permits have been acquired, marking a significant milestone for the business.
Cultivation Under Expert Guidance
The cultivation of the plants will be overseen by Jim McAlister, MGO’s Director of Cultivation. The facility features eight grow rooms equipped with specialized lighting and dehumidifiers, alongside a carbon dioxide system to enhance plant growth. With over 6,000 medical strains available, McAlister has conducted thorough research to identify the most effective strains and their corresponding therapeutic benefits. “Jim feels we will have the best medical marijuana in the State of Mississippi,” Moore stated.
Production Capacity and Techniques
The facility has the capacity to produce up to 40 strains, although it will initially launch with six. Additional areas for packaging and secure storage, as well as offices for staff, are included within the building. The growing cycle utilizes a perpetual harvest technique, maintaining plants in both flowering and vegetative stages. MGO plans to utilize its in-house transportation service for timely distribution to local dispensaries once the products are ready.
Client Demand and Market Overview
According to Winston Ceasear, Director of Operations for the Moore Company, the demand for medical marijuana is evident, with nearly 18,000 patients in Mississippi having received medical marijuana cards. “We have been diligently preparing our operations,” Ceasear mentioned, noting the slow but steady progress within the industry.
Collaboration with Local Dispensaries
The company is actively establishing relationships with dispensaries, particularly in major cities, as well as pain management facilities and nursing homes. Heather Holmes, Assistant Director of Operations at MGO, emphasized the importance of tracking the plants from seed to sale to ensure quality and compliance with regulatory standards.
Partnerships for Product Development
A separate entity, Prentiss Gold, will be dedicated to processing products such as gummies and edibles. MGO has collaborated with a bakery and a chemical engineer to produce high-quality cannabis-infused products at a reasonable cost, ensuring affordability for Mississippi patients. A satellite processing operation is also planned in Jackson.
Enhanced Security Measures
With construction complete and cultivation commencing, MGO has implemented new security measures, including fencing around the facility and guard shacks, reinforcing the commitment to a secure environment. Access to the property is restricted to individuals over 21 years of age.
