Fourth Missouri cannabis recall affects 37,000 more products

A fourth large-scale cannabis product recall in Missouri was issued on Friday for 37,000 goods, another indicator that regulators in the Midwest state are becoming increasingly strict about compliance with marijuana business rules.

The new recall brought the total of recalled cannabis products to almost 175,000 since the first recall, which was initiated in August 2023, according to the Missouri Independent. A second recall was issued early last month, and then a third, making the latest the third in just the month of August.

The most recent recall, issued by the state Department of Health & Senior Services, is for goods made by Blue Sky Health & Wellness LLC, a licensed cannabis manufacturer.

A list of the recalled products includes 37,156 goods, including vape cartridges, concentrates, edibles, infused pre-rolled joints, tinctures, and more. The recall also affected some multistate cannabis brands, such as edibles brands Kiva, Sublime, Wana and Robhots.

Although no adverse health effects have been reported, the goods in question were not “compliantly tracked in the statewide track-and-trace system called Metrc,” according to a press release. For that reason, the state can’t guarantee the product safety. Regulators said they are erring on the side of caution, just as they did with the third recall for 132,000 goods.

Although the fallout from the recent August recalls is likely still being tabulated, the one from last year resulted in legal action and claims for millions of dollars in damages by affected companies.
