Mockingbird Cannabis is set to become one of the largest medical marijuana cultivation and manufacturing operations in Mississippi. This extensive 163,000-square-foot facility, located in Raymond—previously the home of the state’s Department of Revenue—will feature 34 distinct strains of medical marijuana, as stated by co-owner Marcy Croft.
Advanced Cultivation Capabilities
The facility is equipped with specialized rooms designated for each growth stage of the cannabis plants, allowing for the production of approximately 300 pounds of medical marijuana every eight weeks. Mockingbird Cannabis employs 50 individuals, all residents of Mississippi, highlighting the local workforce’s involvement in the emerging cannabis industry.
Stages of Growth
As part of its cultivation process, Mockingbird Cannabis utilizes “mother” plants to propagate clones, ensuring a consistent supply of new plants. The cultivation rooms are color-coded to facilitate the identification of different growth stages, and there is ample space for potential future expansion.
Innovative Production Techniques
During a recent tour of the facility, Marcy Croft elaborated on the area dedicated to the propagation phase, where clones are cultivated from mother plants. The facility showcases medical marijuana plants in their vegetative and flowering stages, demonstrating the intricate processes involved in cannabis cultivation.
Production and Processing
Employees at Mockingbird Cannabis are seen actively sorting and packaging the medical marijuana. The company also offers a range of medical marijuana edibles, including gummies that are typically infused with THC during production. The tincture-making process is another focus area, utilizing a specialized system to remove ethanol from tinctures, showcasing the facility’s commitment to quality and safety in production.
With its innovative approaches and local employment focus, Mockingbird Cannabis reflects the growing opportunities within Mississippi’s cannabis industry. As regulations evolve and the market develops, businesses like Mockingbird stand poised to make a significant impact on the state’s economy and community.
