On May 16, 2024, members of the Direct Action Response Team (DART) completed a search warrant at a business in the area of King Street East and Waterloo Street North.

Colorado gets its first psychedelic treatment center

Published

on

Colorado has now licensed its first psychedelic healing center since passing Proposition 122, called The Center Origin.

“We are honored to lead the way in bringing regulated psychedelic services to Colorado,” said Elizabeth Cooke, co-founder and CEO of The Center Origin. “This licensure represents not only a major step forward in mental health treatment and individual and community healing, but also a commitment to safety, education and responsible care for those exploring the therapeutic and transformative potential of psychedelics.”

The Center Origin

The Center Origin said it is dedicated to offering safe, guided psychedelic experiences facilitated by trained professionals in a controlled and supportive environment. It will also provide microdosing support to ensure a comprehensive and ethical healing process. The center said it will serve individuals seeking relief from conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety and end-of-life distress, among other mental health challenges.

The Center Origin said in a statement that it provides comprehensive in-house support to facilitators working with center clients and offers basic room rental services for facilitators bringing their clients. Additionally, the company said that clients are provided with thoughtfully crafted comfort items, including food and drinks, personalized gifts, and small luxuries to enhance their journey.

The clinic will not only provide a place for treatment, but has also established a training center in partnership with several Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies-approved didactic training programs. The Center Origin’s co-founder and clinical director, Mikki Vogt, said clinical programs also include consultation services to facilitators-in-training and those seeking ongoing professional development.

In addition, the center said it offers monthly professional case conferences, a variety of ongoing provider training for continued professional development and a referral network of facilitators for clients to choose from.

Filament Health posts $5M loss in 2024, faces liquidity concerns

Published

on

Filament Health Corp. (OTCQB: FLHLF) (Cboe CA: FH) reported a net loss of $4.97 million for 2024 while the botanical psychedelic drug developer expanded its clinical trial programs and intellectual property portfolio.

The Vancouver-based company announced in its year-end financial results that cash reserves stood at just $391,237 as of Dec. 31, 2024, down from $1.83 million at the end of 2023.

“Over the course of 2024, we continued to expand Filament’s position as a leading global supplier of cGMP botanical psilocybin,” Benjamin Lightburn, co-founder and CEO, said in a statement. “While this past year presented challenges, we remain steadfast in our mission to unlock the therapeutic potential of botanical psilocybin and our other botanical drug candidates.”

Lightburn pointed to the company’s focus on advancing its lead program, PEX010, through clinical trials globally. The emphasis on treating substance use disorders saw validation from positive trial results showing efficacy in severe alcohol use disorder patients, according to the company.

Last month, the company reported that a single dose of PEX010 reduced heavy drinking days by more than 50% over a 12-week observation period in an open-label Phase 2 clinical trial at Psychiatric Centre Copenhagen.

Financial results showed annual revenue of $616,678, down significantly from $2.13 million in 2023. The company used $4.9 million in cash for operating activities during 2024.

Filament’s financial statements included a going concern note from auditors, indicating “material uncertainties regarding the Company’s ability to execute its business plan and continue in the normal course of operations” due to negative cash flow and an accumulated deficit of $36.12 million.

During 2024, Filament boosted its intellectual property position with the acceptance of 12 patents by IP Australia, five patents by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, and three patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office related to the development of botanical psychedelic drugs.

The company also expanded its international reach by completing exports of botanical psilocybin to multiple countries. Filament in January announced shipments to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for FDA-approved clinical trials and previously reported first-ever exports of botanical psilocybin to Israel and Australia.

Filament operates with a Health Canada Dealer’s License, allowing it to possess, produce and transport psilocybin and other compounds found in natural fungi. The company manufactures standardized botanical psychedelic drug candidates including oral psilocybin (PEX010) as well as oral and sublingual psilocin (PEX020 and PEX030).

The company developed a joint venture called Magdalena Biosciences with Jaguar Health to develop natural psychedelic medicines. In December, Magdalena successfully completed an import of six kilograms of coca leaf from Peru to Filament’s Metro Vancouver research facility.

HOPE Therapeutics to buy clinic company Dura Medical

Published

on

HOPE Therapeutics, an interventional psychiatry network wholly owned by NRx Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: NRXP), today announced it was buying Dura Medical per the previously announced non-binding letter of intent.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Dura Medical Founder Stephen Durand will be named director of Florida clinic operations.

Hope stressed that Dura is revenue-generating and EBITDA-positive. Dura Medical was founded in 2018 and treats mental health and chronic pain on the west coast of Florida, including ketamine treatments.  The clinics also leverage psychiatry procedures, including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), Spravato and Stellate Ganglion Blocks, augmented by traditional psychiatry and therapy to provide a full continuum of care for people with depression, suicidality, PTSD, anxiety and related disorders.

“We founded Dura Medical with the mission to reduce suicide in our community and aim to treat more than 10,000 people by 2026. We’re excited to align mission with the HOPE Network and to lead HOPE’s expansion in Florida and beyond,” Durand said.

Treating veterans

Durand is a U.S. Army Reserve veteran, and Dura Medical provides for the Veterans Affairs Community Cares Network (VA CCN) under an agreement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to ensure that military veterans have full access to these types of treatments.

“Steve Durand has been a pioneer in combining the use of psychedelic medications with neuroplastic technologies, including TMS in the treatment of suicidal depression and PTSD. We are excited to incorporate Dura’s tradition of excellence and commitment to patient care for civilians and veterans alike into HOPE’s Florida network, ” said Jonathan Javitt, MD MPH, and Matthew Duffy, co-CEOs of HOPE Therapeutics.

NRx recently announced the initiation of filing a New Drug Application for NRX-100 (IV ketamine) for the treatment of suicidal depression, based on results of well-controlled clinical trials conducted under the auspices of the U.S. National Institutes of Health and newly obtained data from French health authorities, licensed under data sharing agreements.

NRx told investors it was awarded Fast Track Designation for the development of ketamine (NRX-100) by the FDA as part of a protocol to treat patients with acute suicidality.
