A quick look at the best CBD creams

Best solventless: Papa & Barkley CBD Releaf Balm

Best full-spectrum: Cornbread Hemp CBD Balm

Best for dry skin: BATCH CBD Cream

Best for inflammation: Vena CBD Cooling Cream

Best for pain relief: Rare Cannabinoid Company CBG+CBD+THC Rapid Relief Gel

Best value: Medterra Rapid Recovery Cream

CBD is one of the primary compounds produced by cannabis and hemp plants, along with THC. But unlike THC, CBD doesn’t produce a feeling of being high. CBD creams, lotions, balms, or gels are infused with CBD to produce skin-friendly products that contain the medicinal properties of CBD. CBD creams are most popularly used for managing pain and inflammation.

CBD creams provide targeted relief and are an excellent choice when you want to focus the healing properties of CBD in a specific problem area rather than feel the effects throughout your body. Headaches, joint & muscle pain, menstrual cramps, and skin issues are some of the most common problems for which CBD topicals can potentially provide relief.

There are a massive amount of brands out there offering CBD creams, lotions, gels, balms, and topicals in fantastic numbers. Separating the crop from the cream of CBD creams is no easy feat—and we should know. We here at Leafly Product Picks are happy to present our picks for the very best CBD creams on the market today, recommended by our extremely well-moisturized squad.

Recommended product

The full-spectrum CBD Balm stick is one of the leading products for hemp-based topical relief and relaxation, and our team had no trouble finding out why. Cornbread recommends this product specifically for muscle relief, and our writers certainly felt significantly better after their daily exercise with a little of Cornbread’s best applied. We found that Cornbread’s CBD Balm was a straightforward remedy that helped us with all sorts of skin issues; a member of our team who sufferers from dry skin raved about Cornbread’s balm stick’s power to assist in feeling less like the cracked ground in Death Valley.

best CBD creams

• Dedicated to hemp culture & tradition
• Convenient roll-on stick allows for increased portability
• Recently strengthened formula

Cornbread Hemp has recently strengthened their formula, increasing the amount of CBD by 50%, meaning each stick contains a stunning 750mg of CBD total, with around 25mg CBD and 1mg THC per serving. With that much Kentucky-bred CBD (and a touch of THC due to Cornbread’s full-spectrum extraction process) even the most persistent of aches and pains will melt away, inducing a gentle relief that Cornbread’s customers rave about. Peppermint and Arcina root round out the active ingredients in this product, an inspired pairing that helps reduce inflammation and assist in pain relief.

“Cornbread Hemp’s respect for hemp history makes them one of the most authentic groups in the game.”

best CBD creams

A godsend for athletes, or anyone trying to keep active and prioritize their health, Vena’s CBD Cooling Cream is our team’s pick for targeted inflammation relief. Vena’s fast-acting cream contains both arnica and menthol in addition to 750mg of CBD, making it one of the most soothing creams we found in our research. Size: 8.5 fl oz | Potency: 1000mg CBG + 400mg THC + 1000mg CBD | Price: $79.00

Recommended product

We know, we know, this product is billed as a gel (technically a cooling topical), and not a true cream. But, when it comes to pain relief, it doesn’t really matter what you call it—Rare Cannabinoid Company’s Rapid Relief Gel has got restoration and remedy in spades. Each bottle has 1000mg of CBG, 1000mg of CBD, and 400mg of hemp delta-9 THC, in addition to Rare Cannabinoid Company’s unique alchemy of arnica, horsetail, and gotu kola. This fusion of active ingredients left our team completely free from the moderate aches that pain our waking hours, from post-exercise soreness to more significant bumps, without the unpleasant oily residue sometimes left by lesser topicals.

best CBD creams

• Features 1000mg of CBD, 1000mg of CBG, and 400mg delta-9 THC
• Incredibly fast-acting, versatile pain relief
• Rubs in easily without leaving oily residue

If you’re unfamiliar, CBG is one of the most promising minor cannabinoids that’s recently gained a newfound level of prominence and a cousin of CBD that has been shown to have a particular skill at reducing inflammation. This means that Rare Cannabinoid Company have truly covered all the bases with their Rapid Relief Gel, and our team could truly tell the difference. For our injury-prone writers, Rare Cannabinoid Company’s Rapid Relief Gel quickly became an essential part of both medicine cabinets and outdoor bags, and it can be your companion as well.

“Rare Cannabinoid Company never stops surprising us. If there’s a next big thing coming, Rare Cannabinoid Company is working on it right now.”

Size: 1.7 fl oz | Potency: 500mg CBD | Price: $39.99

Recommended product

Medterra’s Rapid Recovery Cream is powered by a blend of four active ingredients: arnica extract, coconut alcohol, rice bran extract, and, as you may have guessed, 500mg of premium CBD. This fabulous foursome makes for a real all-star team when it comes to recovering after a period of intense physical activity, and also provides some significant relief from bug bites, burns, and bruises. Our writers found in particular that a dollop of Medterra’s Rapid Recovery cream applied to the back of our hands did wonders for our hard-typing fingers at the end of a long day.

• Subscribe and save with monthly delivery service
• Four active ingredients provide deep, soothing relief
• Available in a variety of sizes and potencies

To make your life even easier and less stressful, Medterra also offers a subscription service that will make sure you’re always well-stocked with CBD relief. The best part? It’s also one of the best deals that Medterra offers; if you subscribe to have Medterra Rapid Recovery Cream delivered to your door once per month, you’ll only pay $27.99 per 500mg can. That is an absolutely ludicrous deal, and one that can only come from the minds that make Medterra special.

“When it comes to consistency, quality, and affordability, Medterra never disappoints.”

Medterra is offering Leafly readers an exclusive discount. When you check out, use code LEAFLY25 to get 25% off your one-time purchase.

The best grow lights of 2025 by Leafly

Published

on

If your plants could talk, they’d ask for better lighting. Indoor growers in 2025 are spoiled with efficient, truly affordable LEDs that can crank out big yields without frying your power bill. We sifted through the blurple, the bloat, and the budget bangers to find the best grow lights for beginners and big harvest dreamers alike. Here’s what’s actually worth plugging in.

A quick look at the best grow lights of 2025

Best grow light for 2×2 tents: HLG 100 Rspec V2

Best grow light for 3×3 tents: AC Infinity IONBOARD S33

Best grow light for big yields: Spider Farmer G8600

Best budget grow light: VIVOSUN VS1000

Best grow light for autoflowers: Mars Hydro FC4800-EVO

Best overall grow light: HLG Tomahawk 720

Buying a light for your grow

Buying a grow light in 2025 feels like buying an e-bike, a laptop, or instant ramen in an H Mart. There’s a dizzying number of options, the “specs” get weirdly technical, and everything looks kinda the same, all while the price tags for seemingly similar products fluctuate WILDLY. And if you’re growing weed indoors, whether it’s your first autoflower in a closet or a dialed-in 4×4 with a carbon filter that sounds like a never-ending rip off of a 4-foot bong, your light is the single most important decision you’ll make. No joke. And no pressure y’all.

Related

Leafly’s top 7 feminized seeds of 2025

The good news? LED tech has come a long way. Like, a long way. Today’s best grow lights are more efficient, run cooler, last longer, and use a fraction of the power of an old-school HPS setup. (I do miss, though, feeling like an honest-to-god Sun was living in my closet. RIP HPS). And nowadays, many (most, maybe?) are built for tents and tuned for full-spectrum growth, to give your gals exactly what they’ll need from sprout to finish.

What to consider when comparing grow lights

We sifted through hundreds of top-selling, highly rated, and actually-tested and reviewed lights to find the best of the best. We looked at true wattage (ignore fake “1000W” labels), photon efficiency (tl;dr you want ≥2.5 µmol/J), spectrum quality (look for full-spectrum white + red + far-red), build quality, warranty, price, and where the light’s actually assembled (if you care).

Whether you’re just dipping your green toe into tent life, scaling up your canopy, or trying to keep your autos from stretching like Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic (meow), we’ve got you covered. Below, you’ll find our top picks for:

  • Best for 2×2 tents
  • Best for 3×3 tents
  • Best for big yields
  • Best budget light
  • Best light for auto-flower plants
  • Best overall grow light

So let there be light! Then we can actually grow something worth trimming.

A quick note about “efficiency”

I mean, what does “efficiency” mean, anyway?

Efficiency in grow lights is measured in µmol/J (micromoles per joule). That’s how many useful plant photons your light spits out for every watt of electricity it eats. The higher the number, the more bang you get for your power bill.

Anything over 2.5 µmol/J is considered elite territory, so more buds, less waste, and a cooler tent (literally).

• Built for tiny tents and tidy grows
• Super efficient, passively cooled
• Brand favorite for home growers
True wattage Efficiency Flower/veg coverage Warranty Price
95W 2.55 µmol/J 2×2, 3×3 3 years $149.00

best grow lights

HLG 100 Rspec V2

If you’re running a small tent, you don’t need to (and please don’t) overdo it. You just need smart, reliable photons. The HLG 100 Rspec V2 delivers high-efficiency, full-spectrum light tuned for those photosynthetic sweet spots, all in a no-nonsense, ultra-quiet board. It’s ideal for 1 to 2 plants from seedling through flower and fits <chef’s kiss> in a 2×2 space. Plus, it’s assembled and shipped in the USA. No fans. No frills. Just pure, punchy performance. If I could go back and buy my first 2×2 light again, this HLG would be it.

More about HLG

Horticulture Lighting Group helped pioneer the quantum board revolution (spread-out diodes to reduce hotspots and the need for fans), and they’ve earned their reputation as a go-to brand for serious home growers. Their lights are assembled in Tennessee, their efficiency ratings are independently tested (and tight), and their Reddit cred is unmatched.

Pros Cons
Extremely efficient and low-heat, for the price No onboard dimmer (but can be wired manually)
Plug-and-play setup, great for beginners Not ideal for more than 2 plants
Silent and sturdy (no moving parts)

Honorable mention

Mars Hydro TS 1000 | $88 ($110) | ~2.6 µmol/J
Dimmable, full spectrum, daisy-chainable, and great value.

• Great spectrum with a clean, modern build
• Intuitive smart controller support
• Ideal for autoflowers and 2-4 plant grows
True wattage Efficiency Flower/veg coverage Warranty Price
240W 2.7 µmol/J 3×3, 4×4 2 years $269.00
best grow lights

AC Infinity IONBOARD S33

This light delivers pro-level output in a compact, beginner-friendly form. AC Infinity nailed the balance between power and usability here, with Samsung LM301H diodes and excellent passive cooling. The S33 thrives in 3×3 tents and pairs with their UIS controller system, letting you automate photoperiod schedules, if you rock like that.

More about AC Infinity

AC Infinity is best known for their fans (not fans “rah rah”, but fans “brrr brrr”). To be fair, they’re really good fans. And over the past couple years, they’ve quietly become a decent all-in-one grow gear brand.

The standout is their UIS platform, which lets you sync fans, lights, sensors, and their other gear to a central controller or app. We’ve heard it’s simple to set up and useful, if you’re the kind of person (like me) who can’t stop looking at the baby monitor. So scratch those itches, and check your humidity from your phone or automate a light schedule without fussing with timers.

AC Infinity is based in California, but, like most gear at this price point, the lights are made overseas.

Pros Cons
Samsung LM301H LEDs (aka primo diodes) 2-year warranty is on the short side
Cross-compatibility with AC Infinity’s lights, fans, sensors and more Frame isn’t modular or expandable
App-based control via UIS platform A smidge pricey
Similar AC Infinity lights available to cover 2×2 ($119) and 2×4 ($249)

Honorable mention

Spider Farmer SF2000 Pro | $180 | 2.7 µmol/J
Quiet EVO-board powerhouse with excellent 3×3 coverage.

Need seeds?

4, 8, 12, or 25 seeds | Alien Kush x Tahoe OG Kush

A true 50/50 hybrid, Alien OG is the sort of strain that’ll have you questioning your place in the universe. Hailing from the San Francisco Bay, Alien OG seeds get their potent DNA from Alien Kush and Tahoe OG Kush. You can expect Alien OG buds to flower in 8-10 weeks and reach up to 28% THC in ideal conditions.

28% THC | Hybrid

• Sastquatchian footprint and dense canopy coverage
• Pro-tier diodes and high PPF
• Flexible dimming and scheduling options
True wattage Efficiency Flower/veg coverage Warranty Price
860W 2.85 µmol/J 4×4, 5×5 5 years $485.00
best grow lights

Spider Farmer G8600

This beast is made to push plants to their full potential. Whether you’re running a CO2-enriched 5×5 or dialing in a sea of green, the G8600 dishes out serious light with full-spectrum Samsung and Osram diodes. The eight-bar design delivers high PAR uniformity, and it is smart controller-compatible for full-cycle automation.

More about Spider Farmer

Spider Farmer is one of those brands that pops up early when you’re shopping for LEDs, usually because they strike a balance between affordability and performance. They’ve been steadily improving over the years, and their latest lights are far better than the blurple budget panels they started with.

The G8600 is a solid example: high-end diodes, and enough output to push serious flower in a 4×4 (ideally) or 5×5 space. It’s maybe a bit too much for casual or small-space growers, but for folks chasing yield, it’s a legit option.

Spider Farmer is a China-based brand with decent support and a big enough user base that you can find tips and tricks for these easily online.

Pros Cons
Very high output and PPF Way overpowered for small grows
Samsung + Osram diodes (best of the best, yo) Bar layout may need extra hanging space
Smart controller ready

Honorable mention

HLG 750 Diablo X | $1000 | 2.95 µmol/J (super high efficiency!)
Beefy pro-tier light with boosted reds for extra flower power.

• Crazy affordable (under $100)
Decent efficiency for first-timers
• Solid starter option for 1-2 plants
True wattage Efficiency Flower/veg coverage Warranty Price
100W 2.6 µmol/J 2×2, 3×3 1 year $79.99 $129.99

VIVOSUN VS1000

If you’re brand new to growing or just need something simple for seedlings or clones, the VS1000 is an easy, wallet-friendly pick. It uses Samsung LM301 diodes, has a basic dimmer, and will easily cover a 2×2 space. No-frills and pretty effective.

Why isn’t this light better than the “Best for 2×2 – HLG”?

The efficiency rating is higher and this is cheaper. You scamming me, bro?

On paper, the VS1000 has a slightly higher efficiency rating than the HLG 100 Rspec, but it’s not quite a nugget-to-nugget comparison. VIVOSUN’s number typically reflects diode-level efficiency, while HLG shares full-fixture efficiency from third-party testing. And HLG’s build quality, thermal design (VIVOSUN’s tend to run hot), and long-term reliability are in a different league. So while the VS1000 is great for learning the ropes, many growers who stick with the hobby eventually upgrade from there.

Pros Cons
Pretty much as cheap as it gets for a non-trivial light Shorter warranty
Good enough for a first grow Lower build quality
Lightweight and simple to hang

Honorable mention

ViparSpectra P700 | $59.99 | ~2.6 µmol/J
Dimmable, full spectrum, daisy-chainable, and great value.

• High-efficiency bar design with even coverage
• Handles long light cycles with low heat
• Great size and price for homegrowers
True wattage Efficiency Flower/veg coverage Warranty Price
480W 2.85 µmol/J 4×4, 5×5 5 years $374.99 $439.99

best grow lights

Mars Hydro FC4800-EVO

Autoflowers love light, and lots of it. The Mars Hydro FC4800 brings high-efficiency Samsung LM301H EVO diodes and a bar-style layout that evenly blankets your tent without frying your plants. It’s quiet, cool, and perfect for the longer 18–24 hour light schedules autos thrive on. This is a pro-level light that doesn’t feel like overkill for a homegrower.

More on autoflower lighting

Autoflowers thrive under longer light periods, often 20 hours on 4 off, with steady, full-spectrum LEDs . So we’re looking for a clean, even light with red and blue spectrum support (which this Mars light has in spades).

Pros Cons
Excellent PAR map and uniformity Not the smallest form factor
Runs cool during long auto cycles Controller sold separately
Righteous value for the specs

• US-built with pro-grade components
• Seriously efficient and quietly powerful
• Spectrum, dimming, and performance all dialed in
True wattage Efficiency Flower/veg coverage Warranty Price
720W 2.87 µmol/J 5×5, 6×6 5 years $999.00
best grow lights

HLG Tomahawk 720

If you’re after top-shelf za and want the gear to match, this is the light. The Tomahawk 720 is HLG’s answer to “What if we just made the best possible grow light for $1000?” It is overkill in the best way—massive output, full-spectrum tuning, and a thoughtful bar-style design that delivers uniform canopy coverage without cooking your tent. It’s built like a piece of industrial art, with reflectors and a remote driver that help keep temps and hotspots in check. If I had the space, the money, and enough time to trim all that gorgeous flower, I’d Instacart this beauty in an instant. I mean, maybe just one little treat for Justin, please?

Pros Cons
Made in the USA It’s, um, a thousand dollars
Massive efficiency and full canopy spread Definitely too much for what most folks need. Treat yourself.
Remotely mounted driver for cooler grow space

Honorable mention

HLG Scorpion Diablo X | $1299 | 3.06 µmol/J (utterly ridiculous)

Pro level, high(est) efficiency, monster coverage (can do 4×4 up to 6×6), but, yeah, it’s $1300.

Final thoughts on the best grow lights

I’ve been growing for a while, and I can tell you there’s always a decent option for every budget and space. But I can also tell you that you’ll always wish you had better light.

When you’re growing, so many things can go wrong. Locking down the best grow light for your sitch gives you at least one thing you can absolutely count on to kick ass. Take out some of that guesswork! And give those plants what they crave—pure, unadulterated photons, from little ole adulterated you.

What are concentrates?

Cannabis and hemp plants are covered in trichomes, resinous glands that contain cannabinoids, terpenes, and other compounds. Trichomes can be extracted from the plant, creating a concentrated form of cannabis. These concentrates can take on numerous forms, largely depending on the method used to create them.

Some common methods include: water extraction (ice water hash or bubble hash), heat and pressure extraction (rosin and hand hash), chemical extraction (CO2, butane, pentane, hexane), and dry sieve hash/kief. Chemical extraction in particular produces a wide variety of consistencies, with concentrates coming in forms such as glass, shatter, budder, badder, taffy, and oils.

Most concentrates are dabbed, or flash vaporized, through a dab rig, but some concentrates can also be added to the top of a bowl of flower or used to make edibles.

What is dabbing?

Dabbing is the process of flash vaporizing cannabis extracts—called “dabs”—off a hot surface and inhaling for fast-acting, potent effects. Dabs, as a noun, refer to cannabis oils and extracts that can be used in a dab rig. There are many different types of dabbable extracts, including BHO, rosin, wax, and shatter. They may differ in color, consistency, potency, and texture, and are made using a variety of different extraction techniques.

Because its effects can be powerful, dabbing is a method of cannabis consumption best suited for seasoned smokers who prefer larger, more potent doses.

What is THCA?

THCA is a compound that is abundant in raw cannabis and hemp plants. It’s the precursor of THC that occurs in live cannabis plants: THCA converts into THC slowly over time or more immediately in the presence of heat, such as when you use a lighter to smoke. Therefore, THCA in concentrates will convert to THC, the compound chiefly responsible for a euphoric high, when heat is applied with a lighter, torch, e-nail, etc., or when vaporized.

The 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized hemp products, allowing producers to cultivate hemp plants and produce hemp products meeting the requirement of having less than 0.3% delta-9 THC, or standard THC, per dry weight. Concentrates made from hemp plants containing high levels of THCA and less than 0.3% delta-9 THC meet this definition; however, some US states have created restrictions specifically applying to THCA products, so there are a significant number of states where THCA products remain illegal. Be sure to check with the provider to confirm if hemp-based THCA products are available to ship to your state.

A dabber holding a light cream-colored, badder consistency dab of GMO hash rosin, one of our picks for the best THCA concentrates of 2025

73.83% | Indica-dominant hybrid

Bay Smokes extracts their hash rosin using high pressure but low temperatures, leading to a velvety smooth, incredibly pure concentrate. We’re big fans of their GMO in particular—their rendition of the strain has a nose like a gloriously grease-soaked pizza, and it’s just as tasty.

1g, 2g, or 4g|Chemdawg × GSC

A dab of Northern Lights #5 hash rosin from Arete sits on a metal dabber against a white background, one of our picks for the best THCA concentrates of 2025

84.2% | Indica

Hash rosin is one of the top dogs of the concentrate world for a reason, and Arete is here to demonstrate. Their Northern Lights hash rosin brings out the subtle elements of the classic strain, helping you develop a deeper appreciation for the indica. Take a solid dab of Arete’s best for a spin in your dab rig and let the 84.2% THCA usher you into a blissful night in.

1g or 3g | Afghani x Thai

A caramel-colored dab of Pineapple Fritter hash rosin from Lucky Elk sits on a metal dabber against a white background, one of our picks for the best THCA concentrates of 2025

82.22% | Balanced hybrid

This one is for the connoisseurs. Lucky Elk is consistently one of our favorite names in the THCA world, setting an industry standard for craftsmanship, and their live hash rosin does not disappoint. Any one of Lucky Elk’s many strains on offer is a great choice, but we recommend their Pineapple Fritter for its bright, clear citrus flavor that comes across beautifully when dabbing.

1g or 3.5g | Apple Fritter x Tropicana Cookies

An open, orange and yellow package of Colombian Gold THCA Live Badder from Plain Jane sits against a white background, one of our picks for the best THCA concentrates of 2025

65.94% | Sativa

Plain Jane’s Colombian Gold live badder comes to us via the crew at Pinnacle Hemp, and we’re sure glad they made the connection. Colombian Gold makes an amazing daytime smoke, and Plain Jane’s concentrate is one of the best ways to experience the legendary sativa. Next time you’re looking to have a creative, energetic afternoon, team up with Plain Jane.

An upright package of Watermelon Z Bubble Hash sits next to one of the same packages sitting flat against a white background. The packaging is navy blue with green and red and white font "Bubble Hash," one of our picks for the best THCA concentrates of 2025

68.86% | Indica-dominant hybrid

This Watermelon Z bubble hash from The Hemp Doctor keeps the doc’s streak of top-quality THCA products rolling. They’ve slightly elevated the strain’s natural watermelon flavor, leading to a concentrate that can indulge your sweeter side. This is a great pick for concentrate newbies—the fruity aroma and (relatively) low THCA percentage make The Hemp Doctor’s bubble hash a gentle intro to dabbing.

2g | The Original Z x Watermelon

One of our picks for the best THCA concentrates of 2025, a dab of live resin sugar from Crysp sits on a metal scooped dabber against a white background

Indica

Crysp’s extra-terpy El Chivo live resin sugar packs an impressive aromatic punch from the second you crack the seal. The strain features a multi-layered flavor profile with strong notes of blueberry and diesel, a bold combo that comes alive in a dab rig. We recommend using El Chivo as a nightcap—let its heavily sedative effects tuck you in, and you’ll be catching z’s in no time.

1.5g | OG Kush Breath Headband x Grape Gas

A single THCA concentrate diamond sits against a white background, one of our picks for the best THCA concentrates of 2025

97.85%

THCA diamonds are the ultra-pure solid form of THCA, and MOOD’s diamonds certainly live up to their luxurious title. These crystals can reach up to a gob-smacking 97.85% THCA, more than enough to pique the interest of the most experienced dabbers. To really make MOOD’s THCA diamonds shine, get a whole crew together and pass the rig around for a smoke sesh that feels like the first time.

81.01% | Indica-dominant hybrid

California’s own SimplyMary sources the best of The Golden State’s hemp to make their Tropaya Live Rosin, and you can still taste the Cali sunshine. Tropaya is a citrus strain heiress, descended from the legendary Tropicana Cookies and Papaya strains. But SimplyMary’s concentrate stands on its own as a creamy, fruity delight that makes you long for sand between your toes.

1g | Tropicana Cookies x Papaya

Gelato 41 caramel-colored dab on a metal dabber against a white background

84.80% | Sativa-dominant hybrid

Gelato 41 has a reputation as a heavy-hitting hybrid that stays in the body, leaving the head clear, cementing it as a favorite among those who turn to cannabis for pain relief. Wildflower Hemp Co.’s Gelato live resin is certainly a solid choice for relieving aching muscles, but it’s also just a terpy good time. Once you get a whiff of the strain’s potent, earthy citrus aroma, you’ll never go back.

1g | Sunset Sherbet x Thin Mint GSC

Balanced hybrid

Elk Creek Genetics sells their cold-cured live rosin pucks in double-sized 2g containers, which is a damn good thing, because you’ll go though it fast. They’ve got a selection of solid strains on offer, but we recommend their Blueberry Mintz—not only is it a fabulously funky blueberry menthol scented marvel, it’s a personal favorite of the team of artisans at Elk Creek Genetics.

2g | Blueberry x Gush Mintz
